Hypnobirthing involves specific forms of self-hypnosis, relaxation and breathing techniques which alongside positive suggestion can encourage a woman to have confidence in a safe, easier and more comfortable birth. Hypnobirthing supports a natural labour but it is also wonderful for those women requiring an assisted birth. Hypnobirthing harnesses the power of the subconscious mind which benefits the woman, her birth partner and her baby. The woman and her birth partner can learn to relax and experience positive thoughts about the birth thus inhibiting the 'fight or flight' reflex. This encourages the birth to proceed without disturbance.
We are all capable of taking ourselves, intentionally or unintentionally, into a hypnotic state. We do this when we daydream or when we read a book/watch a film/listen to music and feel 'lost' in them.
At Red Tent, each women is given a book and a CD to accompany the course as well as scripts and tools to use. The CDs are approximately thirty minutes long and draw the listener into a deeply relaxed state. The right words will be said in the appropriate tone which makes it easier for the listener to relax and therefore the conscious mind relaxes and allows the subconscious to become open to suggestion. This act of listening will help the woman or the couple to practise and improve their ability to relax very deeply and whilst doing so they will hear the positive messages about birth repeated and these will enter and be absorbed by the subconscious, to become part of their thinking, their habit, their belief.
At Red Tent we believe that women do not need deliverance from their birthing experience but the tools to utilise their innate ability to birth their baby.
The course runs over 3 x 2 hr sessions either in a venue or in your own home.
